On Sunday, before my club's monthly long arms comp got underway, we marked the passing of two members by making a "Wall of Smoke" for each of them by loading, making ready and firing a volley all on the range officers orders. To hear and see 40-50 BP rifles breaking the silence and firing at the same time is a very stirring (and I think appropriate) way to mark the loss of members, friends and colleagues. I wonder if your club does anything similar?

We did something similar to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Had the line go off one at a time. Was a very powerful moment.

Felt as if those passed were smiling down on us.

My club has a picnic barbeque dinner at the end of September. Before we serve the food, we read a eulogy for each member that passed. At the end of the eulogy, the club members fire a last relay. It is a moving experience.

We have made our flagpole into a memorial monument with bricks engraved with the names of the past club members.

A muzzle loading friend was taken by cancer last spring. At his burial, right there in the cemetery next to the church a volley was fired.
