Very nice job. That's the wood species and color I am looking for. I like the metal finish too...the barrel of my TC Hawken kit started out as blued 45 yrs ago but now has the same luster as your rifle's barrel. I was considering browned barrel and cherry on my next build but I like this combination. Thanks for sharing your pics and your wood finishing formula.
 
i might sell this one to fund one more. this is my 6th Kibbler. no i tested the lye and didn't care for it. to me the gun is not as red as the pic show. it is beautiful, i think my next will be another SMR but in cherry,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I built a SMR in cherry. I didn’t stain the wood just letting it get darker naturally. Finished with several coats of waterlox and hung on the clothes line between coats.
