Well, I sort of gave up on the metal tips- beyond my skill level I guess but I took a look at the Carl Russel Book- Firearms, Traps, and Tools of the Mountain Men. There is mention of wood sheaths so they are pc.
 
When I was a kid I worked for my uncle who owned an antique shop and while rooting through a box of junk found a knife sheath made of wood and wrapped in leather. He gave me the sheath but that was 60 years ago and like most dumb kids I have since lost it. For its age it was in good shape. The wood appeared to be pine and the leather was very thin and laced on.
