THE WOODS OF S.C.
i am ready to finish up the wood on a southern rifle i am building. the last stock i done i used aqua fortis, years later the wood has darkened to much for me. what other alternatives are there to bring out the stripes in the wood? any help or photos is appreciated,,,,,,,,,,,

AF (ferric nitrate) Is always my base color on maple. Neutralizing is not necessary, I never do it. We are talking about ferric nitrate solution not nitric acid here. There is nothing to neutralize. I use dye stains like LMF to tint and adjust. I have never had one get darker with age.

I did have one non ML stock get darker with age. IT was a very expensive English walnut stock. I used linseed oil. Big mistake. Never again.

mike brooks advised i use Kiblers iron nitrate. the stuff i used last was Track of the wolf brand, and i did not naturalize it. at that time i didn't know i needed to. i thank ya'll for the help,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Here is the Iron Nitrate from Kibler on my low grade curly maple stock. The finish is still in the first stage in this pic

I really like the color
