An idea i'm going to try.Have you ever used the pithy material in a gourd the junk surrounding the seeds) as tinder.It works great.this fall I'm going to get those wild gourds. The kind that get the size of tennis balls dry them coat the outside with wax, waterproof tinder.
 
sounds very interesting. the closest thing i have used for 'waterproof' tinder is skatagan (tinder fungus)for catching the spark and shredded birchbark to get the flame. if you throw burning bark into water it will continue to burn.
