Warning.... alot of wheel weights are Not lead any more !!! I found out the HARD way!
Bought some "wheel weight " lead on ebay and mixed it with some pure lead....what I got was like half chewed gum....

I say " dONT BUY EBAY LEAD!!!! "

It's just zinc. Use the 'tainted' lead for fishing sinkers, cannon balls, or duck decoy weights. You just need to get it hotter to melt all the way.

I do agree to stay away from ebay wheel weight lead, though. You never know what alloy you might get.

I've had some good luck buying lead on ebay. Stay away from wheel weight, range recovery or scrap lead, no matter how soft they claim. Look for ingots made from sheet lead or lead pipes.

 Happend to me too...
Germany has prohibited the use of lead for wheel weights since a while.
I thought to be so clever and grab me the last buckets full with lead from the garages around...
Didn´t work, some started using zinc weights before they had to... :shocked2: :haha:

When smelting WW down for ingots, keep the temp below the melting point of Zinc (787º) then scoop out the manure, and pour.

Some areas have mandated the use of steel or zinc wheelweights after a certain date. I did get some off ebay a while back, but I did a couple of trades (wheel weights for soft lead) on a shooting forum and was very satisfied. In fact, have some coming next week. Since I cast for both M/L and BPCR and (other modern suppository guns) I need to have both WW and soft lead.
