My58 smoothbore colonial rifle is a delight. It balances well and shoots round balls as good as I can hold it at 25 yds. Still working on 50 yd groups but early results are very promising. Glad I chose that combination. It is fast becoming my favorite.

I don’t mind the cost I just don’t have the time to learn right now and don’t wanna mess up a 1000 kit
I think Jim lists a couple options on his site. I might add, I had never built a gun before and ordered an extra fancy maple kit from him. It was a breeze. If I did it again, I wouldn’t do carvings for someone else (Idon’t mind mine, I’m just not a professional and wouldn’t want someone upset with a carving I did) until I became more experienced.

Yeah, I know what you mean, my .54 Kibler smooth bore is just like yours in regard to shooting, I really am happy with it.

I typed my weight wrong. It weighs 9 lbs 9.5 oz. I am guessing when I sand and finish it will come in at 9 lbs 8 oz.
My Kibler SMR in .40 weighs 6 lbs 11.8 oz.

On can never guess the weight of a piece of wood.

About 30 years ago I hunted steep mountains for Coos deer. I fretted over each ounce of gun and had one that weighed 6.5 lbs w optics. I could still climb up the hills but going down would kill my knees.
