A friend sent me a link to this place that gets French Amber and Gray flints from local (French) craftsmen. Anyone done business with them? The prices are good if you buy by the dozen and they offer the flints in sizes listed by lock type. I ordered a dozen of each, so when they get here and I have an opportunity to shoot them, I'll do a write up on them.

Don't know if we have done biz with them. My flints were from back beyond my memory.

I know a fellow who orders from them and all he shoots is the French Amber in his line pistols.

He sent me 2 and I like them. They do not have a large hump on top and are very nice and flat. It's easy to hold them in the cock. I will be ordering a dozen for my pistols.

Flints arrived a few days ago. I mounted up an Amber one and off to the range for some white smoke today.
The flints are nicely cut and mount flat and easy in the jaws.
They also spark very nicely. I was on shot 27 before the flint started degrading. I pulled it out, cleaned it, and remounted it upside down from when it was mounted. I shot another 10 balls with it before running out of powder in my bench flask.
Weather was getting ugly looking so I rolled it up and headed to the house.
After cleaning the Bess, I took the flint I had used and napped it back to a sharp edge. (I have been practicing)
I do believe it's good to go another few rounds!

WOW!! This is great news. I can't believe I missed this vendor. They are located right here in St. Louis where I live. LOL
I have been getting my flints from TOTW for years. I usually keep every size in inventory. As most know, you occasionally get one with a hump. It's not a big deal to just grind it off. But it seems that 3 out of 4 that I get from TOTW have humps. Anyone else notice this ? Maybe it's just my luck of the draw (?) LOL
Thanks very much for this post !!

I just ordered a dozen of the 3/4" French black flints. May order the amber next time. Meant to order amber; just wasn't paying attention.
