When shooting off a bench, you may be crowding over the top.

I have found the best way to shoot guns that kick off a bench is to kneel, keeping your back straight.
 
Put that on a T/C without some serious wood removal and you will not be able to get your eye low enough to line up the sights. Might work with a scope.
I wouldn't have suggested it if it didn't work. It works well enough for me but probably not for everybody.

Took down the cheek piece 1/2 inch as per your instructions. Problem solved. Thanks for the info!
