For what it's worth which for me was great. You cand rub denatured alcohol on a stock that is stained to dark and immediately wipe off with paper towel. I found this on the computer. You can see the stain just dissolve snd come to the surface immediately. For me it was a gun that already had just one very thin coat of pernalyn. Lightened my stock up unbelievably alot.It lightens the shade ,does not change color but it sure appears to.
 
The denatured alcohol is dissolving the permalyn finish and some of the stained color suspended in the finish comes off with it when you wipe it. Congrats!! By just trying it, you discovered another way to modify your finish color. :thumb:

If you really want to absolutely blast a finish color, try acetone.
