Sparks not hitting the center of the pan

On my Pedersoli flintlocks, the sparks aren’t always hitting the center of the pan. From what I can tell from slow motion videos taken with my phone, the sparks initially hit on the front edge of the pan or just in front of it. Some of the clips look like the sparks are hitting just in front of the pan and then bounce off the bottom of the frizzen & bounce back in to the pan. In looking at the flint at rest, it is pointing exactly where the sparks go — not in the center of the pan. Any tips for fixing this issue? Pictures below.

Set the flint back in the jaws a bit.
I’ll try it and post the results. But it happens with my pedersoli Kentucky rifle too. And I had to chip the back of the flints so they don’t rest on the frozen at half-cock.

The manual states that the flint should be about 1mm from the face of the frizzen at half-cock. Sliding it back might change the angle that it hits the frozen face but not the angle that it points at rest.

Agree w/ Phil. There is room to move to it closer to screw. Put lock on half cock and frizzen down. There should be about 1/8" gap from flint to frizzen.

Phil - Bingo! That did it. Too far back wouldn’t let the frizzen open fully. But somewhere in the middle got the sparks hitting the pan squarely. Will try it with my Kentucky rifle too. Thank you. Great knowledge here.

Flint shooting requires a lot of fiddling and fussing to get right. The frustration factor is what attracts us to them. And, yes, we have never been accused of being normal. :thumb:

Flip your flint over , angle in the front going up , instead of down ...
Oddly, the videos show the sparks barely hitting the pan at all when going bevel down. The flint hits the frizzen face squarely near the top, sparks almost straight out before the frizzen can open fully and the sparks land all around the partially closed frizzen. Maybe if I could change the angle of the frizzen or the cock, then it might work better.

How does it shoot? Is it reliable? Humid and damp weather reliable? Does it seem slow to fire compared to other rifles?
