Is there any real advantage to a bolt spring with the slot cut all the way to the hole?

It makes it more flexible , less stressed and should add to it's life. Basically extends the finger length a bit much like a wire spring does.
Would cutting the slot in a new or replacement spring be advisable? Or just keep extras!

I've never had one of the ones I make of stainless spring stock from old Luftkin tapes break made the traditional way so can't say about factory springs although it looks like it probably would de-stress a stock spring.
