so i have a question about shooting and loading maxi bullets i and see if shooting maxi bullets and lowering the powder charge will improve the my shot pattern on my 1861 Springfield so do i need to just lube the rounds or do i need to use a patch with them also because all i have ever shot is round ball out of it

Another variable to consider that can have a night and day type impact on accuracy is a wad between the powder and Maxi. No wads, crumple up a patch or two and run them down on the powder under the slug.
