Here's one you don't see everyday! Item #136118797 on Gunbroker.com. This treasure is so rare that I've never seen the like before. The quality of the workmanship is unlike anything I have ever seen created by the hand of man.

I e-mailed the guy and told him what he had, and what it was really worth, figuring that he thought it was authentic. No answer. Waited a week or and e-mailed him again. Told him that if he knew it was bogus and sold it as an authentic Civil War item, it constituted fraud and if it crossed state lines the Feds might get interested. No answer.

So far the only way I've found to report a fraud to GunBroker is after one takes place. Apparently they want their cut first and since they can't do much after the fact it would appear that they don't care if some of their sellers are crooks. I've lost a lot of faith in them.

Say arent those Itialian proof marks ?
Nice wood filler where the patch box was.

Those ARE Italian proof marks! Maybe that's what makes the gun so valuable. Few Civil War Era firearms had Italian proofs--especially guns made in America. But this bozo seems to believe that this tarted up piece of junk can fool some poor newbie into buying it as a genuine antique. :barf:

Can't agee with you more. You see this kind of stuff on all the auction sites all the time. I collected oil lamps since I was a kid. In the past couple of years I've bought some nice old lamps off of eBay. Seen ads say they were made in the 1880's and charge several hundreds of dollars. The lamps are marked with a patend date of 1905. I bought my lamps from honost, knowledgable people for $20 to $40, and in better condition! It's all about buyer be aware, no matter where you go. By the way, I have a genuine antique .45 Blue Ridge that was carried by Daniel Boone as he explored the casinos in Reno, NV. Even has a nick in the stock where he dropped it crossing the Rockies. Made by that famous gunsmith, Davide Pedersoli. Real bargin at $5,000 :rotf: :rotf:

Hi Russ is not this about the third time around for that valuable rifle. First time I saw it I was wondering which side in the CW was making .50cal muskets. Then looked a little harder and saw a lot of wood work on a Zoave like remove the patchbox change the buttplate. Guess thats enough just too many things the Confederates wouldn't even accept.
I agree they should make him pull it or at least fess up to the fake it is.
Fox

Ps I might give him $100 just to haul it around in the back or my truck as a loaner.

Well, at this point the guy knows it's a fake and still lists it as a real antique, so he's a crook. I was talking to my nephew--a lawyer--about this and he looked at the offering. He was upset enough that he said he was going to send a letter to the Attorney General's office in the guy's home state. Apparently this is a much more serious crime than I had realised. We'll see what happens.

Has he changed his description? No where does he say in the description that it is old or is an antique. Is it kind of implied in the title, but he never says that it is an original. I'm not defending him, just asking a question.

I do think he's toned down the description a bit, but that title needs some work as does the price. Adding the word "reproduction" in a conspicuous place would be good.

Another indication that this boy is trying a rip off: he claims he's seen the rear sight sell for $400.00. Maybe for an original. But repos are more in the $50.00 range. I think there's little doubt that this jerk is a crook.
