Ramrod tip removal

I need to shorten a hickory ramrod but not sure of proper procedure to remove the brass tip. It doesn't appear to be pinned. Will a heat gun loosen things up? Tks.

If have to shorten the rod more than the length of the tip, just cut the tip off. You can either drill out the wood left in the tip or burn it out. Refit the tip and pin it, maybe use a dab of epoxy too.

The heat gun might help too.

Heating the tip to loosen the brass tip should work. Take a good look at the tip. I have used brass pins to lock my ramrod tops in place and after I have peened the pins, filed any excess off and polished the tip, the pins are almost impossible to see.

If the other end doesn't have a tip that may be the end to cut.

A little heat and it slipped right off. Chucked the rod into my 1/2" drill and filed to fit. It is now pinned. Thanks for the info folks! Appreciate it.

Most likely glued on, so yeah, I would try heating it up.

I've usually seen Tow as being referenced for cleaning. After you use it, rinse it out and keep it for later.
