Pedersoli woes....

I did not see any obvious adjustment screws other than the one by the trigger. my Trapper has additional adjustment screw inside the lock and has instructions in the manual for that screw.

I'm not talking about adjustment screws. Take the lock out and check to see that the bridle screws, the sear screws, and sear spring screws are all tight.

The set trigger lock is non functional. The way it came from the factory the set trigger was so light that it clicks off just by shaking the pistol or slapping it against your palm yet it wont actually drop the hammer. In order to get it to drop the hammer you need to set it so light that a feather will trip it and it does not pass the shake test much less the bump test. . setting the trigger to any sort of reasonable level it will not drop the hammer but will still click and unset by palm slapping the pistol. Pedersoli does not even have a customer service link on their website. the only contact link is for product information/ advertising. I did send my complaint via that link. Interesting that several of the folks on this site informed me that my $365.00 Traditions Trapper was a piece of junk yet it shot perfectly right out of the box and traditions has good customer service. this Pedersoli was over $1,700 after tax and shipping and it won't even drop the hammer...

There are few things as disappointing as getting a new toy, only to have it arrive broken. I feel your pain!
I've always had good luck with Pedersoli customer service. They've been quick to answer my inquiries and very helpful. They may have a stateside repair facility that can do the work. I once bought an Uberti 1860 Army that was defective and they had me send to Stoger for repairs, easy peasy.

For $1,708.00 I do Not feel like playing amature gunsmith. I did have the lock out and nothing was obvious. I am making a small bit of progress with customer service even though so far they sound just like this forum. told me to adjust the set trigger and sent me a link to the owners manuel that I already have. hopefully tomorrow I will get some better info and contacts from them.

I'm not a fan of Pedersoli, as a gunsmith I have repaired a few of them. But all really only had small issues that if the owners had taken the time, they could have repaired or corrected them selfs. Sometimes even high end guns need some care.

Pedersoli has responded in a timely manner and put me in contact with their warrantee gunsmith in the USA. I had a long conversation with him this evening and based on that conversation he felt there was something wrong with the trigger mechanism and that I should ship the gun to him.
Gustroland. all guns need maintenance but its easy for you to say as a gunsmith that its an easy fix. I am a carpenter not a gunsmith and while I understand my Trapper lock and how to make adjustments to that, this lock looks completely different and I don't feel comfortable messing with it. so unfortunately I will be out my time and shipping but hopefully having a world champion gunsmith tune this lock will be a good thing in the long run.

I just spoke with Lee Shaver the gunsmith who does pedersolis warrantee work and he actually had to do quite a bit of work to both the trigger and the lock to get it to function properly but its good to go now.

I should have asked him if I was making a big mistake going with .433 balls instead of the .435 that pedersoli calls for. I am hoping to make up the difference with a .015 patch instead of the .010 patch they recommend..

I don't want to return it because its the only one in stock. as soon as I bought it Midway showed out of stock. Midway has big bold lettering all over the page that black powder arms are a non return item. I do want it fixed. I have an email in to Pedersoli . hopefully that pans out. I am really disappointed that this gun left the factory with such a glaring safety issue. of course the first thing I did was check the trigger pull with the set trigger and hammer on half cock as all my other set triggers you can check them that way without risking a dry hammer fall. it was so light it went before I was ready for it and I thought. wow! they really set that light. then I went to dry fire it with a cap on the nipple and found out that the hammer would not fall. I had to adjust it even lighter to get the hammer to fall when the trigger was pulled. so light that the hammer will fall if you just bump the pistol with your hand.

Have you taken the lock out of the pistol to try and really adjust the lock and set trigger? I had to do this with my Pedersoli Hawken and it shoots just fine now. It really may be a simple fix.

It would be interesting to hear what exactly Lee had to do to correct the malfunction. A strange problem indeed when the lock would drop with the trigger set too light but no drop with it set heavier considering that either way the arm tripping the sear is striking it with the same force either way.

Balls are cheap get a bunch of different sizes along with different fabric /pillow ticking from Joannes Fabric stores /deferent grades of powders along with patch lubes . There is no reason trying for short cuts ,ain't possible and robs you of all the extra trigger time (enjoyment) finding out the best load for you and the gun . And not for nothing ,until you shoot all the above combos yourself you and the gun will still be strangers! /Ed

I am glad you have had final satisfaction with your pistol, I had sear issues with a new Pedersoli rifle musket years ago. I took it to a gun shop that specialized in black powder guns in Neshanic station N.J. and he fixed it on the spot for me. He then proceeded to tell me why Pedersoli arms in his opinion were not worth the money. I was new to muzzleloading at that time, so I took his advice. And as was mentioned on this thread, most guns need some kind of work or adjustment at times when purchased. Pedersoli however, does require more of a monetary outlay for an inferior product than I am willing to pay.

Denster the lock would not consistently drop from full cock in any configuration. the set trigger would click at half cock. when i actually tried to snap a cap that's when I found out that the hammer would not fall. I did get it to fall a few times but not consistently. Stick shooter. these ball apparently are not cheap. Pedersoli sells .435 balls for $80.00 per 100. they sell their .435 mold for $120.00 but if you want handles for it you have to fork over another $80.. I could not find any other source for a .435 mold . I find lots of .440 and lees makes a.433 so I bought the .433 lee mold with handles for $39.00 will play with patches and see how it does..

Check out Jeff Tanner's ball moulds. He can make you any size you like, the quality is top notch and prices not too bad. Way nicer than the ones Pedersoli makes. He also sells different thickness of patching.

So my Le page finally arrived a few days before Christmas. Its taken me a bit to get used to it but after about 100 shots I did my personal best on my biathlon course with 8 out of 9 hits. my previous best was 7 hits. 20g of t7 seemed really hot in this pistol so i reduced it to about 16 ish which still hits the steel with authority. A real bonus is that the le page works with reguler #11 caps where the Trapper only gets good ignition with magnum caps. still getting used to the feel and the sight picture as well as the trigger pull. if I stiffen the set trigger it seems to add creep so its set pretty light. It cost me $50.00 to ship and insure the return for repair . So far I think it has potential to be a good fit. Much harder to load than the trapper but i am starting to get the hang of it.
