We have steep mountains as well so I favor big bore Jaegers for their light weight & long range accuracy.
My favorite has been this original .70 cal. from Kiobenhaven.

I've wanted to visit New Zealand for ages, but I'm not sure I'll even make it down there. Would love to get on some of the Milford track, don't think I could actually do the entire length though.
