SOLD. This is an exceptionally well cared for rifle. The 1861 Springfield was one of the principal firearms of the Civil War. And while not a perfect clone, this rifle shines. The 58 caliber 40" barrel has a twist that appears slower than 1:66, and certainly not the 1:48 I found on the interwebs. Features a one-piece American walnut oil finished stock that doesn't have a blemish worth mentioning. The steel parts are finished bright as they should be, with some minor oxidation spots as commonly found on bright metal. The lock is marked "1861 Springfield" and is emblazoned with an eagle. Top of breech stamped 1861. Bore us bright and sharp. Some minor residue remains along edges of grooves from whatever sub the previous owner used, maybe just once! $925 SHIPPED.

If I remember correctly the were 1 in 66". I know Midway says 1 in 48" but I believe they are wrong. When I had my business I sold one to a friend who cut it down to a 2 bander and it was far slower than 1 in48" and shot very well.

Thanks. I will check. The 1:48 is listed on a couple of retailer sites. Update: Looks to be slower than 1:66. I don't have a 40" rod, so I taped one at 33". It didn't even make a half turn. But the shallow rifling may not be holding the tight patch around cleaning brush.

That is true. The original twist was quite slow (1 in 72), 3 shallow grooves, and progressively rifled. That being said, BigSkyRambler is a class act and a 100% honest seller. I have bought from him twice and his offerings came to me better than described. I would not hesitate to buy from this seller.
Aw, shucks! Thanks for the compliment.

I hope someone snaps this up, I have the ArmiSport CS Richmond and it's a good shooter with .575 Minies. ArmiSport-Chiappa make a good barrel. I have the Pedersoli version and I honestly like the ArmiSport better.
