Finally found a good pattern for a patch knife. It is a skinner pattern, but it is of a great size for cutting patches. Had a small piece of scrap 1095 left from a bigger knife and found a use for it. It fits my hand right and the blade is just the right size. It is 6 1/2 inches overall and didn't take very long at all to finish. Useful tools can be made from scrap.

Nice use of materials. The two things I miss most about retiring are the access to the machinery in the tool room. (third shift tool room was great)And the scrap pan under the cut off saw. ( The guys on day shift never emptied it and it was often filled with usefull tool steel).

I didn't retire from a valuable spot like that, but have had my workshop for years and am getting slower to go buy something and faster to find a solution in my own shop.
 :)

That is from a 3/8" x 3" board of cypress that I had a picked up at a local hardwood supplier on the cheap. I just used some of that and oiled it. I plan on using more of it in the future; I like it.
