Is there a replacement nipple for the Nepal P 53 musket?
When did Nepal stop making the P-53?
Were any used in the Civil War?
How is the bolster connected to the barrel?
I acquired one a couple of weeks ago at a gun show,
and the biggest issue with it is the cobbling of the nipple threads
the nipple is no longer lined up with the center of the cock. I didn't
realize that the nipple was turned down for a percussion cap instead of a musket cap.
Yesterday, I mounted it on a B&D Workmate loaded with 60 grains of 3f and a 58 cal mini and used a string to trip the trigger. 2 loads using 80 grains of 3f were fired without any issues.
Should I stay with percussion caps and forget about the musket caps?
Any suggestions and information about these questions will be appreciated. Thanks

Just an opinion here....musket caps are easier to find and seem to work better on the old war horses. If you're stocked up on regular caps though there's no need to change.

Not sure what you mean by "cobbling of the threads" but TOTW sells nipples that are slightly larger replacements for old threads

Keep in mind if it was made in Nepal, it may not have any standard thread for the nipple. Might be better to retap for an available musket nipple. The ones I’ve seen were better used as wall hangers.
