The movie makers down here like to make him out as some sort of hard done by folk hero , in reality he was just a dumb petty criminal turned multipul murderer of unarmed coppers.

I liked both of them. Neither would make my top ten list, but in my opinion the more recent one is well worth watching. I also really enjoyed the novel: "True History of the Kelly Gang," by Peter Carey.

Read that much of it I can't stomach it any more , it has attracted a lot of attention in the past few years relooking into it on both sides, every angle you can thing off .In the grand sceme of things there are much better stories in our history then Kelly , the whole saga has always attracted way more att. then it deserves . :barf:

Well it has certainly been raked over. The thing about the Kelly story is that it encapsulates so much of that time- from the flint-hard poverty, the persecution of the Irish, the corruption of the constabulary, the lack of justice and compassion of the judiciary ( Redmond Barry being a classic)the resentment of the common people. Don't know of any unarmed policeman shot by Ned Kelly. The police that were killed at Stringy bark creek were all armed.Over 70,000 signatures on a petition to spare Kelly's life from a population of around 300,000 in Victoria at the time tells you something. The Kelly story is complex and layered, thats why it has such longevity. Kelly was no Mad Dog Morgan

Poor old Ned,no rest even in death.Buried without his head,a witch had it they say.
