Here is a pic of my first knife building project. It is made out of an old file and is sharp. I am not sure of the handle. It is from an elk shed and seems a little big for the blade. Please look at it and tell me what you think

Nice job!
Looks a whole lot better than my first knife!!
In addition to Mark's suggestion of dying the handle, I would also rub in some linseed oil to bring some life back into the antler, maybe make it shine a bit

Get you some Fiebing's Dark Brown Leather Dye for the handle.

If you wish to have a darker handle, that is...

If you wish to have a handle that is more on the burnt-orange side, then quickly run it through the flame of a torch to change the hue of the antler...

For a first knife, it looks just fine.....

That's a fine lookin first knife. My first one looked more like a prison shank than a working blade. :hmm:

Having tryed potasium permaganate as a stain on my rifles[not a good choice :cursing:],it makes a fantastic stain for bones and antler. I even found a product called old bones at a recent B/P gun show. Works great

p.s. good job! Pathfinder
