Yes-I wore my original copy out, was lucky enough to find another at a used book store in perfect condition. I was just a teen when I first read it, promptly went and got my first muzzleloader.

2) the Mountain Man series by Terry Johnston
Prequels
"Dance on the Wind"
"Buffalo Palace"
"Crack in the Sky"
Original Trilogy
"Carry the Wind"
"BorderLords"
"One-Eyed Dream"
Sequel
"Ride the Moon Down"
"Death Rattle"
"Wind Walker"

3)"The Big Sky" by A. B. Guthrie, Jr.

I thought I would like his books and I picked up a dozen or so. I got thru about 1 1/2 books and gave up.

I liked every one of the Titus Bass series of books by Terry. It would be awesome if they would make a series of movies based on these books. It might just give the RMFT hobby the shot in the arm it needs. Seems like all my old companeros have gone to SASS, which is fun too, but I hate to see the rondesvous go down hill again. In the 70's and 80's it was big and lots of camps. Crow Killer is a great read, too. HOORRAH! fer the mountains!

How about "Give Your Heart To The Hawks"

Yes! By Winfred Blevins, that is one fine book. I near wore out my earlier copy and fortunately a student gave me a new copy as a gift this past Christmas.

I gave a copy of "Give Your Heart To The Hawks" to Mark Baker as a gift when he was living here in Michigan going to school many years ago. He was a young man then just getting started in muzzleloading I'd like to think my gift inspired his writing career. :haha:

Pemmican by Vardis Fisher is also excellent. I just got a copy of Crow Killer off ebay and I'm looking forward to reading that.

Hi Swampman,

I have the book Crow Killer, but I do not have the one by Fisher. Please let me/us know how the comparison is. It would be interesting for sure.

After reading this thread, I borrowed a copy of Mountain Man. Great read!. It came with a copy of Fair Land, Fair Land by A.B. Guthrie Jr.
The same friend let me borrow his Jeremiah Johnson DVD - what a guy.
