I'm finally at the point where I need to make more of your moose milk patch lube. It appears that Murphy's has changed their oil soap formula and it doesn't look or smell like the previous product, the one that was in your original recipe. Since so little was needed in your recipe can omitting it still yield the same great results? Have you made any with the new oil soap, or do you have any recommendations for a substitute? Your MM is a terrific patch lube. Thanks!

I have made it successfully with Pine-Sol and Castile soap (good 'ol Dr. Bronners teeth, pits, dishes and hair soap). Really, any liquid or paste saddle soap likely will do. Just make sure whatever you try does not contain pumice! And make sure to shake well before use. Some mix more readily than others.

I have dipped patching (in zip-loc bags) that are 15 years old and still viable. Lately I have mostly been relying on paper cartridges for my smoothbore dipped in the wax version. In sealed two liter soda bottles the moose juice mix seems to last indefinitely. Shake well and apply. Once dipped and dried it doesn't matter about the alcohol as it evaporates off anyway - leaving the oils and lubes.

After all these years, after all this time,,
your wet mix, after evaporation of all alcohol and water(15yrs) leaving the "oils and lube" on the fabric for patch,,
"dipped and dried it doesn't matter".
Well, Thank you.
Your magic mix is a stickey that will live forever.
Dr5X still rules, long live Dutch.
