I'm letting this nice Miroku 1861 go, priced to move at $800 shipped.

Please, no lower offers or trades , I'm already asking less than I paid. I'm funding some other purchases so I'm pricing some stuff to move quick today. I've gotten some great buys in the past from other members so I'm kinda paying it forward.

Looks like a past owner clumsily removed the lock and "crazed" the wood, and glued it. It's cosmetic and not structural. I reflected this in the price. The seller "forgot " to mention it when I bought this 2 years ago.

I haven't even gotten around to firing it. I was going to glass bed it but never did. It was in my "things to get to" corner where I'm cleaning things out today.

A .575 Minie fits, a .577 does not, if that helps.

Lock is strong, the bore is sharp. It looks like someone put an original or repro 1861 Springfield ramrod in there, the channel looks cut for some proprietory Miroku rod? I don't know.

If you can find one, these are $1200+ rifles, the cosmetic crack, non original ramrod and my desire to move this are reflected in the price.

PayPal F&F or mailed payments

A .575 Minie fits, a .577 does not...

Hi Stan. Do you mean that a .577 Minié is too large for the bore? Have you measured the bore? I am fortunate enough to have two Miroku Springfields, an 1861 and an 1863. Both bores are oversized. I've misplaced my measurements of the 61 but the 63 measures .5835. The 63 likes Miniés cast from a Rapine 583455 mold, sized to .579. That mold drops a 455 grain, .5825 Minié that I then lube and size to .579. I was going to ask if you have had a similar experience and sized your Miniés for this gun but then I remembered that you said you haven't fired it.

I was tempted briefly to buy this gun but I have too many shooters now any. From my experience Mirokus deserve their reputation for excellence in appearance and accuracy. For anyone interested, Stan's price of $800 appears to be a great deal!

I can check again, but last month or so I recall placing a sized .577 Minie fresh out of my push thru sizer into the muzzle, and it was a very tight fit.

A sized .575 went right down. I would assume it would be an excellent shooter with .575's. Every time I had thought to take it out and fire it, I would grab something easier to "pack" in the car or just take a cap and baller. I just could never find time to see how it did with .575's.

I also have a bunch of shooters and I'm trying to find a focus with the Enfield type rifles and .69 Smoothbores, but if for some reason no one snaps this up for $800 it wouldn't be a problem for me to keep it, at all. It's a really attractive '61 Springfield repro.

It's very hard to even see, here is a blown up photo

It looks like a past owner popped the lock out and wasn't very careful, putting a little surface crack in the wood. Then they worked some glue into it and basically made it nearly impossible to even notice. It's not structural but must be mentioned.

I saw in your description that the "bore is sharp" is it free of any rust or pitting?
I'll snap more pics

There is no rust or pitting at all

Besides the little surface crack and unexplained different ramrod , it looks hardly if ever fired. The nipple , bolster area and bore don't have any old carbon or powder residue, so if it was fired someone thoroughly cleaned it to Basic Training Inspection level

It's most likely been fired , but the bore is new. The rear sight still has packing grease on it?

If I had to guess, someone bought this when they were available, made a ham handed attempt to remove and clean the lock, lost the Miroku ramrod , put a few rounds through it and that was it.

I would love to know more , such as how you lose a ramrod unless he forgot to take it out before firing ....we will never know.

The fact that .58 rifles multiplied in my gun room is your gain, so if you're looking to buy , I'm looking to sell :)

I’m glad someone finally snatched this one up. Good luck to the new owner!
