Lyman Great Plains rifle, .50 cal.

I orderd a nipple wrench for this rifle and the one I got is way to large to fit the nipple, can someone tell me which one to get that will fit this great rifle? Thank you kind sirs.

I have one that came in a Traditions package that fits the nipple well, but you have to take the lock off to use it because the hammer is in the way. Another one I have from T/C is short enough to use with the lock on but it fits the nipple pretty darn loose. :idunno:
The best ones are made at home out of a 1/4 drive socket that you slot with a Dremel tool or other cut-off wheel to fit your nipple.

Thanks, I'll try the 1/4 inch socket and I have dremel tools. Thanks. One of the guys I shot with had a tool with a 45 degree bent handle on it that worked well, I'll have to ask him about his, problem is he's had it so long can't remember where he got it. ha ha

I found a 1/4 inch end wrench and it works great, good fit. it's small, only about four inches long to. :thumbsup:

I did the same . . . works better than any commercial nipple wrench I ever found - cheaper, too.

I've got over a dozen various nipple wrenches. Some fit just one nipple and some fit several. Some seem to fit nothing. But I can't remember where I got them, either. :idunno:

I have one that's closed at the end and it won't work for me. The one that does work on the GPR is open-ended and fits fine.
