Every few years I think to look up this little essay by the old South Dakota gunsmith and am always inspired. VM liked to choke his shotgun barrels and he also mentions reboring but I don't know quite how he did the choking, whether by the jug method or reboring the barrels back from the muzzle. He sure had a lot of faith in the old caplock doubles.

I bought his book when I was 15 an still have it. I had just got a 12 ga percussion double in a trade out firewood cutting labor for the gun. Im 61 now an Followed his teachings an discovered real fast he knew what he was talking about. Im a huge fan of Fg in the big smoothbores an I owe all my smoothbore accomplishment's to him. Many squirrels an turkeys an a truck load of rabbits went down to the Fg powder an other shotload advise he wrote

I met Vic at a rendezvous at Ft. Sisseton, S.D. nearly 50 years ago. He was a small, personable old man, and certainly knew his way around shotguns. I've not read his info for quite awhile, but thought he had explained the choke process there. I'll put a link here for you to look.

I never had any luck with his advice. I load like that britsmoothy guy and don’t have to chase down wounded game. And I keep the range down.
