I don't know why anyone would want to make a movie that follows the book closely. It was impossible for me to read with all the descriptive passages full of overblown and flowery language, like most early 19th c. fiction. The movie, on the other hand was great, once you overlook some of the flubs, like the perfectly square timber behind Hawkeye and Cora in their love scene. You could even see the marks from the circular saw blade used to cut it.
 
Sorry Alden, I neglected to mention in my comment of "no mention of silk patches in Deerslayer either" that I was referring solely to the book which I just recently read.

Netflix has the D. D. Lewis LOTM and a version of Pathfinder, but not much in the way of Deerslayer other than a 1920 silent and a 2006 German version.

Ya know, I never finished Pathfinder I realize so will have to get to the lakes... And I never knew about those other Fenimore Cooper movies (though not sure who DD Lewis is).
