I picked these blanks up of craigslist today, in hopes of someday building a couple of rifles.
I have a couple of questions, as I'm not really a woodworker...

1. I'm pretty sure one is walnut (the bottom blank), but what is the rest of the wood?
2. One blank has a side-bend to it. It's a fairly thick piece of wood. Could I potentially cut up straight up the middle and not have to worry about the bend? [The bent piece is the 3rd from the bottom, which is also the one I like best!]

The 2nd from the bottom looks bent in the pics, and is curved, but not bent side to side.

They all look like walnut from here, and pretty impressive walnut at that!

Don't worry about the blank being "bent", unless it is bent so much you can't get your pattern on it.
