Good shooting

Today had a great time breaking in a new Lehigh 20 gauge fowler that I built.
I realized that I was not too great at shooting clays on the fly.
I spent the afternoon shooting with a good friend.
He with his 20 gauge trade gun English fowler (36" barrel) and me with my 42" barrel.
After about twenty shots on the fly, only one broken clay. ( not by me!)
After patterning we realized these guns maxed out at twenty yards.
Then we switched to round ball, what a difference!
Those suckers can shoot with a patched ball.
First time in fifty years shooting with a smooth barreled gun and round ball.
I also thought the Lehigh roman nose would beat the heck out of me...It didn't???
I'll be back at it in a few days, and post a report.

Fun, ain't it? Took me quite a while to realize follow-through was the key to the whole business, and yes, range can be a big factor. What the heck, it's still a hoot. When you start feeling like you're getting the hang of it, try out dove hunting...humility training big time!
