For a while I was getting very good groups with Elephant BP. The I switched to Schuetzen. I don't know if they're the same. But one thing is for sure. My shots spread out to 3"- 4" apart! I then used a friends GOEX powder and my groups tighten back up.

Have any of you had the same results?
I'm using a Lyman Deerstalker .50 with 385 Hornady G.P conicals and 80 gn of BP at 50 yards.

Whenever you change a component in a load you have worked up, expect change. Fortunately, you were able to correct your less than desirable results. I suspect that Goex is more readily available, than Elephant, or Schutzen powders. So I would say that your experience paid off. :hatsoff:

I guess you better look for some GOEX or find out what Schuetzen load your gun likes.
As you may know, the Elephant is dead. Gone. Out of Business.

I am rather suprised that there is a notable difference between GOEX and Schuetzen. I had read that they were quite similar.

It's getting harder and harder to find any real Black Powder around here. None of the 'Mart ever carried it and the small shops now only sell Pyrodex/777 stuff. I guess it's not cost effective.
Dare I say it...It may be time for an inline. There I said it. And now I hang my head in shame. :( :( :(

I'm not. Especially after my hold/pass testing.

Also, IIRC Graf/Schutzen is supposed to use Alder for their charcoal - which has a different burn characteristic.

I have been using Scheutzen for about 2 years now and find it to be very effective.
