Nice original French military musket from prior to the first regulation model 1717. Louis Carrier is a known gunsmith from St Etienne arsenal. I believe he and Robert Carrier were among those that helped design the 1717. This musket would date ca 1690s. By 1700 the French were using a flat lock similar to the 1717 but more banana shaped. Barrel has been cut down to 42 1/2" (down from about 47"). It has nice arsenal markings. Stock is cut down on both ends. Shortened forestock when used as a fusil de chase in civilian life (has a lovely horn end cap so I didn't stretch it back out). Butt has also been shortened, possibly even during its military use to accommodate a shorter person. The butt plate is nailed on with forged nails and is period. A rare gun to find in any condition. Restore it, use the original parts for a build or enjoy it the way it is. $1000 obo plus shipping
