I would like to make a small flat horn for hunting.
Should I use a larger horn and cut it down to the size I want or should I use a small size horn? I noticed that the small horns are not very thick in the front end. Finally, do you make a wood mold to insert inside the horn when you squeeze it flat or do you use some other material other than wood?

Thank you,
Billk

Good morning Billk; They say a picture is worth a thousand words; so here's what I do; I use a wood insert to keep the horn from collapsing when I shape it. I have found that a two piece insert works better than a solid one when you are trying to remove it, after the horn has been shaped.
Two inserts that I have used in the past:

Here's a jig that I put the horn and insert in when clamping (it keeps the sides of the horn nice and flat:

Here's a link to a horn that I flattened a while back; http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/197770/post/311432/hl//
Hope this helps;

Thanks for the super link Soggy, and thanks for the question billk. Been wondering about it as well, just did not have the guts to ask it. :redface:
