Bought a maybe never shot early 70's TC 50 caliber Hawken recently. 2 trips to the range. 1st trip used sabots with 45 cal pistol bullets because that's all I had. It shot 1.5 " groups at 50 yards which I wasn't upset about. Today was range trip #2 with freshly molded and lubed 250 gr. REAL conicals. 4 shots were one oval hole. I am happy, happy, happy. I'm positive I will be hunting with a smokepole this season. Some nice folks on here recommended the REAL bullets and I'm grateful for the advice.

Be sure to test out to longer ranges if you plan to hunt with them. I shot REAL in a 50 and 54 with downright exciting results at 50 yards. The same bullets, loads and day it was hard to keep them on a 14 X 14 target.
