Can anyone tell me about a cva Plainsmen, I am looking at one in 45, it has double set triggers. Barrel twist? Prb or conical a? Load suggestions? Are the locks on these well made? Thanks, Craig.

I have one that I converted to flint. Mine was a 50 caliber that had a 1:48 twist. It was ok with roundballs and I never tried anything else. I built another gun, a tac driver in .50 so I decided to cut the rifling out and now it's a .53 smoothbore.

I have heard that the mainspring is susceptible to breaking but I haven't had that misfortune in mine. I think I paid $100 at a pawn shop for my Plainsman and I wouldn't pay much more.
