I have a Rifle Musket (63 Springfield) that will not take the ramrod its full length.. There is something (dirt or debris) down in the bottom of the channel that is preventing the ramrod going all the way in.. It is about half an inch or so thick. What is the best way of getting down there and pulling the offending debris out? I am thinking of taking a hard wooden dowel and cutting a scraping edge on it and work on it that way..
Question.. Is there another patent way to do this or is my idea sound?

Making a scraper out of a piece of thin steel rod would work.

Attaching a small drill bit to a thin piece of steel rod would work better. Just go slow and keep check your depth.

Finding a wooden dowel or steel rod that long may prove difficult.

Find a way to attach a drill bit to your ramrod. Then you'll have the length to get the job done.
