This is pretty neat . Here is the barrel of the Fusil de Chasse that I'm finishing up . You never really know how they are gonna look until this stage , right at the end . I'm pretty happy with the octagon section here . I ground the flats on this one . I like it and very authentic

With barrel in shallow temporary barrel channel , center barrel , hold it there ....look straight down on each side and pencil line the breech width and the barrel on each side ..... Youll stay inside these guide lines ....as the barrel goes down you scribe more lines and they are more accurate each time .....start chiseling in the square Breech first then start working forward ....

At the breech I take to wood down the barrel thickness final depth , just a small spot , and mark it .This is for later . I use a gouge to knock off corners so barrel will go down into channel at bit , say inside lines ...Then ....as the barrel is down now , remark lines , they are accurate now , and use larger chisel and chisel straight down , work to transition for now ....

After you've chiseled straight down whole length of Oct. Section then use chisel as shown and get that wood outta there ...what it squared there .... now barrel in. Mark the edges full length ...the marks beyond the transition are rough so stay inside them for now .... Time to get messy .... Barrel is .250 high at breech ....

And now ...its the long drawn out , messy , bedding process . Cover the barrel with inlet black or suet , put barrel in channel , tap in down and back toward breech , take barrel out , remove wood where black is , re apply inlet black and repeat ...a few thousand times , LOL .... Always watch your edge lines . keep your breech square and no gaps .

Coming along nicely Rob,so is your tutorial .👍

Rob,
A Type G, iron mounted in cherry, left handed.
I‘m assuming a fantasy gun?
I like it, but definitely not PC?
Yep , customer request . Not fancy but iron hardware puts it in the fantasy category .... south paw too actually . Ive seen left hand trade gun , original , but not a Carolina Gun .

Yes, thank you Rob for all your pictures and explanations. You could probably get a lot more done if it weren't for that!
Ah , dont know about that , I'm pretty slow and like ive told other folks .... Before this forum. probably 6-7 months ago , I had absolutely no one to talk to about flintlocks , trade guns or building. Even the very fee folks that like muzzleloaders around here don't like flintlock trade guns ....so its fun. For me to interact with folks around the country with my builds .
