I want to make a canvas shooting bag. Is cotton duck canvas what I should be looking for? I only found cotton duck and then some polyester stuff at the local Joanns.

most haversacks shootin bags are made of #8 weight duck canvas. have a look at this site hope this helps

I use canvas shooting bags too. Recycle old duffle bags or tent canvas. Some of the old canvas looks just like leather.

Good luck, post pics of your bag when finished.

Here is one I just finished up. Made from garage sale Scottish flax canvas desert water bag.

Nothing fancy, decided on a quick and easy to make, working poor boy rig, leather edged flap & reinforcement for pewter closure button. Second pic is of leather covered rawhide sash sheath & horn I also made to round it out.
