I am no expert but my opinion is the back action rifle is a slop job made from an original stock and barrel that once had a normal percussion lock on, it perhaps lost in time. Whoever fit the back action lock didn't do the rifle any favors. The tang bolt missing the trigger plate is another indication of a slop job. In spite of being ugly it may be a great shooter. Check to see if it and the other gun are loaded.

The other gun looks like it is from the 70-80s period, it may have a TC trigger and guard on it. The lock looks like a flint late Ketland plate converted to percussion. Whoever put this gun together didn't do a half bad job.

Thanks. I only paid $100 for the pair and was really just buying the nicer one. But the more I look at the hack job the more I have an appreciation for it. Hack job yes but the ingenuity of the hack job is interesting. Neither are loaded. Did buy an old Mortimer double barrel last year and found one barrel loaded. Gun powder had turned to almost a flour consistency. Appreciate the input.

I agree with EK, the hack job may have been out of necessity and lack of money to keep the old girl shooting.
Nit Wit

I always like getting a good deal. Didn't know I got that good of one. Love the wood on the nicer one. Wood grain has a holographic effect to it. Turn it at an angle and the tiger stripes vanish.
