Todays notion of long plugs mean you have side nails cutting into or haveing holes through the plugs tang .The old adage was ' Three good thrids ' a service Bess had towards 3/8" deep plug I lop off enough so Ive to cut off the overlong plug in a common plug. If its a Nocks You can have longer thread contact thick linseed is ok to seal any gaps People today are way too worried about safety . none I made ever burst or failed Proof
