Anyone have a good recipe for black walnut dye that uses alcohol or vinegar to retard mold growth?

A handfull of salt, a good shot of vinegar, and a few pieces of really rusted iron in the dye bath. Best done in an iron pot. The iron makes the color richer, the vinegar, and salt makes it more permanent.

I assume that your letting the walnuts leach their on liquid for a concentrated solution , my cure for the mold or growth in the container is a couple of oz. of dry gas in the a closed container .
the batch i have is at least a couple of years old and still in fine condition. Hope this is of help !

Oh my God, you can't be serious! Vodka is for internal use only! Using vodka in that manner is just wrong! :shocked2: :nono: :shake:

My first REAL hangover was from too much vodka (I was 15 at the time) and haven't been able to get it down since. Whisky, on the other hand... well that's a different story. It may have been a terrible waste, but my walnut dye is drunk off it's A$$......
