Back in the early 80's I was at a Massachusetts lumber yard looking for some nice curly maple when the owner took me over to a LARGE pile of beechwood gunstock blanks and asked me if I could use some. He said that he had a large order from a gun manufacture that wanted wood for their .22 rifles. The manufacture decided not to buy the beechwood and the lumber yard had to eat the wood. The pile of wood was about 15 feet high and 30 - 40 feet in diameter. What a waste of wood.
