I like lard and beeswax and mix it to a thickness of soft wax. I vary this depending on the time of the year - harder in the hot summer and softer in the winter.
The Eras Gone mix used by Mark Hubbs of lard and wax (bees or paraffin) mixed 1:4 seems to be a pretty all around mix.The sizing mix used on bullets for unmentionables needs it a bit softer to work well in the lubri-sizer.
The 1:4 mixis great for making felt wads.
And all you need is at the local grocery store.
