After 4 plus years (long story) I finally got out to the range to shoot my .58 caliber Thompson Center Hawken.

I shot from 25 yards, 50 yards and a few from 100 yards. All shots seated using 65 grains of 2F Goex and a patched Hornady round ball. Here’s my 50 yard target…

Really nice to get out to the range again.

After 4 years that's a nice group! How much drop at a 100? Wish the weather would settle down so I can go out. I put together a Hoyt bored .58 Renegade with a 1:40 twist that shoots a 600 grain maxi-ball. Shoots best with weighed 70 grains of 3F. Tried 80 grains and it was all over the place! Still need to tweak it a bit when I install a peep sight.

At 100 yards it dropped about 6 inches or so. I only had time to make 4 shots at 100. Next time out I will try to get 10 to 15 shots to get a better feel for placement.
