What material are you guys using? Labels, special paper? How much larger do you go before sizing?
Use lube on patch bullet before sizing?
I have a pedersoli tyron creedmore with .449 bore im interested in trying.
The original idea of Paper Patching wasn't mine. Paper patching the lee 500 S&W bullet was my idea. Actually I came up with that idea about 12 years ago. I have been using that bullet for hunting every since. Hardened to 6 to 7 BHN, that bullet has taken a pile of game for me and others.
I’m curious just how big that meplat is. Reading older notes on wide meplats (mostly the .45-70) it was stated that ~78% was the max one would want to go, that wider had a tendency to have the bullet change course upon striking the animal and that after 50 or 100 yds it was deemed inaccurate. Yet we see very wide meplat bullets such as the one you use and they don’t seem to have those drawbacks as they figured. Clearly you haven’t noticed this either.
My revolver bullets are ~83% and I have a .456” that weighs 285 grns I’ve wondered about trying.
