Great hunt this evening. I laughed a lot.

Thank you I build the gun from scratch 2 years ago. Bought a piece of wood and components and build it like so many on this forum.

Great hunt this evening. I laughed a lot.

It was a better day today. I saw the same buck again, but got no shot. However, minutes later 4 nice does walked by and I got this one.

You got a point there to consider.

Great hunt this evening. I laughed a lot.

I was hunting with my home made flintlock today. It was cold and windy in Western New York. In the morning I saw some squirrels. Then in the afternoon I saw some rabbit. To me that is a good sign and I said to myself: "The deer comes next". 30 minutes later, a nice 8 point came into one of my...

Any other heretics out there that oil their barrels?

Warm water in bore until the patches are clean. Then dry patches until squiky dry. Then a light coat of 90 weight trany oil in- & outside barrel. No cleaning before shooting. No sludge. No issues.

    Hooked triggerguard sawhandle pistol.

Thank you all for the inspiration. I will keep chipping away on this project. It will likely take another 3 month or so to finish this one up. I already want to start my next project which is a rifle in .45 cal. with mule ear lock but this one has to get finished first. Live is good!

    Hooked triggerguard sawhandle pistol.

Hi everyone, I am progressing on my build to make a sawhandle pistol. I have a triggerguard I do not like and think it might be trouble to install and would like to use a hooked triggerguard like shown below. However, I have trouble locating one. Does anyone know where to get it? If I cannot...

    Rough barn gun

Loocking at all these worm holes makes me question how bad the inside of the wrist area looks. That you cannot find out unless you cut into it. Being a professional cabinet maker, I have cut some wood over the years... I could come up with 2 solutions. One, shooting the gun with a proof loaf...

    First Flintlock Deer!

Congrats to your nice deer! Enjoy the venison. I build my first flintlock in .45 cal. last winter and got a nice doe during firearms seaon as well. I am hooked.

First and Last Barrel Channel Finished.....Pic Heavy

You can also take your blank to the table saw and make several cuts to get the bulk of the wood removed. A cicular saw with a fence will do as well. The router method wooks too, but if one does not have a good jig to do the job, things can go bad in a hurry. Don't ask how I know. Another method...

    Powder Coated R.E.A.L Bullets

Thank you for all your input so far. What I am trying to prove is that there is no harm done to anything when shooting powder coated R.E.A.L bullets and not cleaning between shots. We have too much snow on the ground right now and cold for setting up my bench, but I will do more investigation in...

    Powder Coated R.E.A.L Bullets

Maybe I am ignorant with fouling and R.E.A.L bullets and yes I am somewhat green when it comes shooting black powder. Here is my theory and please prove me wrong if I am incorrect. If I push down a bullet into a dirty "fouled" barrel, my thinking is that the bullet will scrape/clean the fouling...

    Powder Coated R.E.A.L Bullets

With lubed R.E.A.L. bullets, I am not sure if "softening" of fouling even is possible. Since the bullet fits the bore on the bottom band and slightly gets to oversize on the following bands, it gets engraved as it gets pushed down the bore. I because of the tightness, the bullet scrapes any...

    Powder Coated R.E.A.L Bullets

You put a handful of plastic bb's Crosman airsoft max precision .25 grams in a plastic tub. I was told that some bb's will not work but these will. Then, you add 2 tablespoons or so of powder coating powder. Add a large handful of cast bullets and put the lid on. Rotate, swirl and shake...

    Powder Coated R.E.A.L Bullets

I have been looking for some information on coating R.E.A.L bullets for the .45 flintlock I build last winter. I know that many use bore butter, Alox and similar lubricants. I cast bullets for my other guns and have done a fair amount of powder coating and shooting these bullets without getting...

    Sawhandle pistol trigger location

I had the grip angle straighter since I compared it to a long barreled single shot handgun. The trigger reach there is 3-1/4". However, there you have to shoot with a bent wrist which I am not trying to do with this gun. The lock is a Chambers small Siler and I thought that would be about the...

    Sawhandle pistol trigger location

Hi everybody, I am working on a sawhandle pistol and need a little bit of advise. I can not figure out how to get the handle shaped so that I get the correct trigger location. I have a 2-5/8" trigger reach from the throat of the stock to the trigger. It seems i cannot get a pleasant location...

    Davis 004 trigger location

Thank you everyone. Another thing is that the trigger bar seems to be too high. It seems that unaltered, the stock would be uneccessary high. Can I just file it down?

    Davis 004 trigger location

Hi everyone, I am a cabinet maker by trade living in Western New York. I have been lurking around in this forum and decided to join. I am in at the start of building a left handed Berks/York county rifle with a short (32") light .45 Cal barrel. When laying out the components, I am uncertain...
