    Ya cant be scared !

Being on a fixed income now, getting toys is a big deal but my wife the banker gave me the go ahead to get a rifle kit and thats a big deal for me. Having said that my choice is a Bedford county flintlock in .36 caliber. I've never tackled anything as ornate as one of these with all the brass...

    Just another horn

Finished this up today. Pretty plain and simple but it turned out better than I expected. This is a big horn so one fill up should get me through the squirrel season 😁

    That should last a while

I was cleaning up one of my old out buildings today and came across a forgotten treasure.......... about 300 lbs of lead flashing. That'll keep me in balls for a loooong time.

    Suede leather

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question but here goes. I came across some really nice suede leather on the cheap that would make nice hunting and shooting bags but am curious about it's use in the early and mid 18th century. I find references to the late 18th century coming from...

    Squirrel horn done

Well, it's woods ready. I added patina with boiling coffee, the lanyard is scrap deer hide and the plugs on both ends came from my brush pile. I used India ink for color.

    Dedicated to the squirrel hunters

Started some layout and preliminary sketches on my new powder horn for scrimshaw. Here's to the squirrels and those that love to hunt them.

    Kibler side effect?

1st off let me state that I don't own a Kibler but I've read a lot of threads on how user friendly they are to assemble and finish. Is it possible that with the popularity of the Kibler kits, that other kit makers will be inspired to follow suit with their kits to make them more user friendly...

    Who can relate

Two weeks ago this was a well organized work bench but after several gun projects and accessory projects it is total chaos. I blame it on gremlins but I gaurentee they won't clean it up.😉

    Now ain't that cute

Picked this old .32 TC Cherokee up years ago as kind of a bucket gun. It was missing screws, barrel wedge, front blade sight and had several stripped holes in the wood. With a little TLC and time I've replaced screws, made a wedge and repaired stripped holes in the wood. It's the shortest BP...

    Thinking outside of the box

This may have been done before but it works great. Having a stuck ramrod yesterday and no puller designed to pull it, 38 years in the piping industry kicked in........why not use the block from a flaring tool? Pick the proper size on the block, snug it up, give it a tug and wala, rod removed. No...

Large volume water storage at events

Just curious what you folks use for large volume water storage at events and still stay HC/PC correct.

    Using whatcha got

To me part of the fun of this hobby is doing for myself with what I've got. The early frontiersman didn't have big box stores to buy what they needed, so they used what was available. With that mindset it's amazing how many useful items you can create by going thru your barn or garage and being...

    Lipstick on a pig

Well I pretty much finished the facelift on this old .40 cal. that I built nearly 40 ago. I was young, naive and not much patience and made a lot of mistakes, so I decided it was time to make it more appealing. It's been a lot like putting lipstick on a pig...it's still a pig.....but no longer...

    Different calibers different bags

Getting tired of switching everything out of a bag for different calibers so I'll be making more bags. Made this one recently for my .32 cal. Used what I had, hand stitched with a small pocket, then distressed a bit with a batch of black walnut hull dye.

    New quick camp

Been looking for an alternative to a big lodge for short stays so I ordered up an 8x10 tarp with loops not grommets for just a bit more than a really good drop cloth. Easy up, easy down, efficient and period......it's all I need.

    Good weekend lean-to size

So I'm getting to old and lazy to set up a pickup and enclosed box trailer full of gear for events.......so I'm thinking lean-to. Like many ,I go to enjoy the events and setting up to much gear is getting dangerous close to work. So having said that, what is a good tarp size for one man for a...

    Natural canvas longevity

From what I read, I understand that high quality untreated natural canvas is water repellent/ proof.......but what about longevity? If high quality canvas is cared for properly will it last as long as treated? Does anyone here use high quality untreated natural canvas and what might be the...

    Tried a little scrimshaw

Done these a while back. Thought I'd try my hand at some primitive scrimshaw. I sketched it first with a pencil then just dove in with a scribe, then inked it. Think I'll try my hand at it again in the near future as I need another horn.

    Smooth rifle barn gun?

While rummaging through my barn I found some treasures from over 25 years ago in a long lost and forgotten old tool box. With moves, life and time ,I lost track of the box and what was in it. With this lock, would it make an appropriate smooth rifle barn gun or should I go a different direction...
