Pietta out of the box shooters?

My '51 Navy sure isn't. It has a late bolt reset problem I have tried to deal with by making very small changes like polishing the hammer face and using some 320 paper on the curve of the bolt with no results. Usually trying to pull the hammer back twice is successful the second time so I...

    Touchhole liner

I've been thinking about putting a touchhole liner in my flinter. I installed the barrel a tiny bit too far forward so the touchhole is right against the breechplug so part of the liner would be against the threads of the breechplug. Will this cause a problem or should I just forget it?

Thought the third time would be a charm but it wasn't

Took my Pietta 51 Navy to the range for the third time. Aside from the 50 mph winds everything went great until I tried to lower the hammer onto a safety pin on a fully loaded cylender and missed and let it down on a capped nipple. The gun completely locked up. The hammer wouldn't cock at all...

    Bought caps today

The Mountain Man shop in Manatou Springs, Co has a good supply of most sizes. I paid $11 a tin for CCI #11s.

    Pietta 51 Navy bolt

I finally got my new pistol out to the range and fired 6 caps and 5 chambers. The hammer seemed to hang up like it had a cap jam. Took it home and took it apart. No cap anywhere, but now the bolt hangs up. It goes down at halfcock but won't pop back up so there is no lockup at all. I've taken it...

    51 Navy Pieta

I got a 51 Navy for Christmas. It's from Taylor's. I have to say I'm not impressed with the fit. I got the shipping oil cleaned up but had a hard time getting the barrel off. I had to do some filing on the base pin to get it back on. That's n9t really a problem since I expected to have to do...

    How do you carry pistols.

I have 3 pistols ( not revolvers) that I take to the range. I just put them in socks to protect them. Tbere has to be a better way.

    Old supplies

I've seen several posts lately about the good, bad, and ugly of using old shooting components. I realize that humidity and location can make a difference. I live in Denver which is very dry. I just started shooting again after about a 10 year break. My half full plastic container of Pyrodex...

    Hopkins and Allen underhammer

A friend gave me an H&A underhammer pistol that had been given to him, and he has no interest in BP guns. I took it out to shoot for the first time today and was unsuccessful. None of my #11 caps came close to fitting the giant nipple on it. The nipple's external diameter is just slightly larger...

    Saddle holsters

I know Walker revolvers were generally carried in saddle holsters rather than on the belt, but I've never seen such a thing. Does anyone have pictures?

How to solder on a ramrod thimble

I have an old Wm Moore style pistol, and the thimble came off. I've built a few guns but have never soldered a brass thimble to a steel under rib. I'm looking for suggestions.
