    Turner Kirkland Rifle

Drove to Dixie and bought one very early on. Kept it for years. was .40 He changed to .45 quickly. Very good rifle even if odd stock design. Passed it on to a student where I taught and got a Niehardt from Golden Age-then started doing my own. Keep shooting-it grows on you

    .44 Starr Single Action Revolver

    .44 Starr Single Action Revolver

If you own a s a Starr, you might like to check the following-place the hammer in one of the safety notches and see if it locks the action up. On mine the hammer will not move-have to remove the cylinder and replace to get things right. Bought it early on and still like it. I just load 5, not 6

    The Miquelet

Very poor quality flint in all of those areas-larger mainspring increases chance of sparks

    Pepper Box

THE hoppes is NOT manually indexed --at first. It will rotate sorta when the hammer is cocked. About 15 minutes later after cocking several times, the cocking pins break off--THEN it is manually rotated. P S--The dueling pistol will not fire reliabely-spring weak and nipple way too short...

    Fluted Army Sings Sweetly

Sir-In some of my 38 yr teaching material, I cut out an article that said Wade Hampton nad a chamber blow on his colt and wrote Colt and asked if flueting could possibly more equalize cylinder pressure so there would not be only one thin cyl. wall as on round ones. Have no idea if any truth to...

Probably Dixie Consignment-Thirty yrs or so ago, they had a consignment rack up front in the store. Rifles were by various builders. They may still do this In about 1972 I bought a Freddie Harrison very light rifle from the rack for 350.00. Still have it. Buchele rifle on rack then was 900.00...

    starr revolver

Do not think the double action can be thumb cocked for single.. flaw in design of single action-place hammer in slots between nipples for safety and pistol locks up--CANNOT cock hammer-it will not move- (very good safety!) One Must unscrew...

    Buttplate layout

13.5 to14 is pretty much average. measuring from mid index finger to crook of elbow is a rule that I have heard for years and it does NOT work for me as it comes out way too long. Please be careful and work tis out to fit you-easy to make pull length too long and hard to make it too short if...

the French made a better musket

Sir They were vertical. Supposedly the grooves and very heavy mainspring compensated for the extremely poor quality flint found on the Iberian Peninsula and the Med. Sea area. Large, heavy mainspring required external placement in order not to weaken the stock. Read this in article in a mag I...

Found a Wesson replica muzzleloader rifle today...

Looks like one I bought from EMF out of California in the 70's. Cost about 125.00 and did not have any provision for a false muzzle. After I got it and tried to shoot it I gave it away and it is now a wallhanger. Sight would shake loose, nipple was odd and the WORST thing was that the...

    Tecumseh's trade gun !?!????

Johnson was known as "Rumsy Dumsy" in Kentucky as he campaigned for office showing off (waving) what he claimed was Tecumseh's bloody shirt taken off of the body. Campaign song was "Rumsy Dumsy Col. Johnson shot Tecumseh" Great crowd pleaser in Ky. where Tecumseh was hated. "Waving a bloody...
