    Muzzlerloader Article

Did you all catch Mike Nesbitts article in last Muzzloader Mag about his new Canoe Gun? I thought it very interesting seeing the velocity comparisons and its ability to shoot so well. He also addressed the Name Canoe Gun, , so it has been acknowledged that a gun called, "Canoe Gun" as we use...

    What pistol at 25 yards?

OK so not to highjack the other elk / pistol thread....Is there a pistol load combo that one would feel comfortable shooting an elk at 25 yards max? I think .58 cal and about 800-900 fps would do it. Or a .58 mini ball at a little less. Let the fireworks begin! P

    flintlock vent

I was going through my book on The Guns From Harpers Ferry the other day and, remembering the discussion on powder in relation to vent in the pan, I found something interesting. In a photo of a Hall breach loading flintlock, I see the vent is dead center in the pan, like a drain in a sink. So...

    cylinder capacities

Reading about how much powder a ROA cylinder can hold got me to wondering just how much powder(3Fg) the various pistol cylinders can hold. I had an 1860 Colt Uberti and I think I remember it held 40gr to the brim. So, not considering the "recommended loads", but the cylinder capacity to the...

I took out my little 20" BBL 16ga. North Star West gun this morning. I was using 1. 1/8 oz #8 shot and about 65 gr 3FFFg. Something I did for the first time today, was use some old terry cloth towel , cut square and dipped in hot mutton tallow and bees wax. That made them kind of stiff. Put...
